Less Options, Less Clutter: Tips for Creating a Good Capsule Wardrobe for Kids

If you ever wasted time standing in front of your wardrobe, trying to decide what to wear, you are not alone.

When you have too many clothes in your closet, it can feel overwhelming. Instead of immediately finding the clothes you need for the occasion, you are swamped with choices which makes the process of getting ready become far more complicated than it should be. You waste time and energy deciding what you will wear for the day.

Kids, too, will benefit from having fewer clothes to choose from. A capsule wardrobe provides only a limited amount of clothing every season. Typically, a capsule wardrobe consists of about 37 items, including accessories. For kids, you can further trim it down to about 15 items.

Having a capsule wardrobe would make dressing up so much easier, especially in the morning when you are in a hurry to go to school or a holiday. Here’s how to design a capsule wardrobe for your child.

Weather-Appropriate

Having a capsule wardrobe does not mean your child only has to have a few items of clothing throughout the year. Of course, you still have to buy your daughter a Spyder girls ski jacket when you want to spend winter at the Alps or get a Speedo for your son for your summer holidays in Hawaii. However, these items of clothing should not be out in the open when not necessary.

It is important to consider the season when choosing your child’s capsule wardrobe. When it is hot out, the coats must be kept in storage while the dresses and shirts with thin, breathable fabrics should be brought out.

Removing clothes that are not appropriate for the current weather would give you so much space in your wardrobe. It will allow you, or your child, to see your options, making the process of getting ready so much quicker.

Versatile

Because your child’s capsule wardrobe will be limited to only a few items of clothing per season, when you go shopping, it is ideal to buy items that are simple and can be worn in a variety of styles and purposes. Your child also needs the basics: a T-shirt, a dress, pants, skirt, shorts, a bag, a light jacket, a pair of sneakers, etc.

Your child’s wardrobe does not have to be boring but do choose clothes that can be worn several times. If you are tempted to buy a cute piece of clothing, think of how many occasions it will be appropriate to be worn? Children grow fast; they might outgrow the product before they even get a chance to wear it.

High Quality

You are buying fewer clothes which your child will wear over and over again. You should invest in pieces that are made with quality in mind.

They might be more expensive than Target or H&Mbut, most of the time, they are worth it because you can be assured that the item of clothing will not disintegrate after two rounds in the washing machine. The goal is to have less and minimize the products in your child’s wardrobe.

There are so many benefits of having a capsule wardrobe for your child. You save time and money having fewer options and buying fewer clothes. You also teach your child to value the items they have and not want products that they do not need.
