3 Common Injuries from Motorcycle Accidents and How to Prevent Them

If you are driving around on a motorcycle, then you are assuming some risk, and much like any other vehicle, there are some common injuries that can happen if you make mistakes or simply just get into an accident.

The risk of getting into an accident depends on your skill as a rider, the weather, the road conditions, and the movements of other drivers, but sadly most of these accidents also cause a lot of injuries to drivers as well.

Here are some of the most common injuries that you can get into from being on a motorcycle, and also how you can prevent those injuries as well.

What Are Common Motorcycle Crash Injuries?

1.   Head and Neck Injuries

One of the most common injuries that motorcycle riders face is head and neck injuries, because even with a helmet injuries such as whiplash and concussions can cause a lot of problems as well.

Every injury from a simple bump on the head to traumatic brain injuries can cause a lot of problems. Facial injuries can also alter your life and lead to some major problems if you have facial injuries that are disfiguring.

2.   Leg Injuries

Additionally, leg injuries are also common on motorcycles as well. These can include big injuries such as broken bones as well as crushed bones that can happen due to being pinned between cars.

Foot injuries are also common, because sometimes the drivers will attempt to place their feet on the ground in order to stop themselves from moving, or damage them while being ejected from the bike.

3.   Arm, Shoulder, And Hand Injuries

Finally, a large portion of injuries from motorcycle accidents happen to the collarbone and shoulder. These can be dislocated shoulders, bone fractures, torn rotator cuffs, and broken collarbones, all of which can take a while to heal.

Wrist and hand injuries are also common because bikers will try to catch themselves whenever they are ejected from their bikes, and end up doing more harm than good to themselves.

How To Prevent Motorcycle Injuries

The best way to prevent motorcycle injuries from a motor vehicle accident, along with following the rules of the road and ensuring that you are driving safely, is to always wear proper protective gear. Even if it is hot outside or you are only driving five minutes away to pick something up, you still need to gear up because those clothing items will help to protect you from injuries.

Proper motorcycle safety gear includes: A proper helmet, long sleeved shirts and pants, thick socks, and proper boots. You can also get proper thick motorcycle boots as well as riding armor that has impact padding, and these clothes can help absorb the impact and mitigate some of the damage.

The clothes and a proper helmet will save your life, so even though you might be tempted to wear shorts and a leather jacket while cruising around, don’t. A little discomfort isn’t worth your life or a life threatening injury.

Contact A Lawyer If You Are In An Accident

Sadly, even with all the safety preparations that you can do, you can still get into an accident and are in fact more likely to get into an accident than drivers of a car. If you do suffer an injury or damage due to an accident, you need to contact a motor vehicle accident lawyer to help you out.

They will represent you in court, and if the accident was not your fault, then they will help you get the money you deserve.
