Sometimes, life can throw us off track, and an exercise routine that was once thriving can become non-existent. Whether it is because of sickness, a family commitment or having to work overtime, you should never let it demotivate you completely.

Once you have got back on track, you can easily insert an exercise routine back into your life. The main question is, what is the best way to do this? After a long break, it is normal to lose motivation and to find it hard to get back into your old routine.

However, there is a reason you got into this routine in the first place. Exercise has been proven to improve your mental health as well as your physical health, so getting back into it may be exactly what you need to feel better in every way possible.

If you need a boost of motivation, then here are 5 useful tips for your first workout after you have had a long break.

A Simple Start

If you are really finding it hard to get back into exercising and it feels overwhelming, then just start off with something that is easy. This doesn’t have to be a gym session; it could just be a brisk walk or jog, or some kind of mini workout at home.

This will just get you moving and should give you the push you need to get back into your healthy habit.

Focus on the Post-Workout High

We are all guilty of overthinking and working ourselves up over things in life, so instead of focusing on that, try to think of the outcome of your workout instead.

Exercise can be hard when you’re taking part, but afterward, you always feel brilliant. If you need something to keep you motivated, then focus on the high you feel post-workout, because this is something you will never regret.

Get New Gym Items

Getting yourself new gym clothes, bag, etc., is a great way to start your first workout after a long break. Buying the items can motivate you to go and you will also feel good wearing them.

Getting equipment to enhance your performance can also make you feel good. A sauna vest is a great investment, as they are designed to help sculpt your body. Preparing your gym bag beforehand will help you keep your word.

Find a Workout Buddy

Having someone you like to exercise with is a great way to get you back into your old routine. Not only will it make it more enjoyable, but this person can motivate you to stick to your routine.

They may be able to help you in ways you didn’t know, such as introducing you to a class that you really enjoy and wouldn’t have tried alone. When you like what you’re doing, you will keep doing it.

Schedule Your Exercise

When you have a proper routine, it is a lot easier to stick to it. If you pencil in a workout, then you will be able to prioritize it for that day.

Make sure you schedule it for a time where you know you won’t get easily distracted and where you are normally free. If you know work can run into your evenings at times, then use the mornings to workout. If you have to cancel, rearrange it immediately.

The great thing about life is that you almost always have an opportunity to change it. As long as you have the right frame of mind, anything is possible.

Things will always be there to try and throw you off, but they are just obstacles that you need to dedicate time too, so you can overcome them. This is normal and something you shouldn’t let demotivate you.
