As many of us are working from home at the moment or some not working at all, it is the perfect time to make some home improvements. However, while it might be a good idea to ‘do it yourself’ as you have the time and it will save you money, there are some jobs you must save for the experts.
If you feel confident that you can fix a condensate pump or build some decking for your garden then you could give it a try but here is a list of some of the thing you should definitely not try on your own:
Painting Kitchen Cabinets
This one is important as when you think about painting the kitchen cupboards you might assume it’s just the same as any other painting job, when in fact it is completely different.
In the kitchen, there is a buildup of grease and oils on the surfaces which means that before you start painting, you need to do an extensive deep clean with a degreasing agent. Again this isn’t something that should be taken lightly as there are safety measures you should take and special equipment you’ll need to use to do this properly.
A professional painter who has worked with kitchens and kitchen cabinets before will know exactly how to do it and get it done in the best and most efficient way possible.
Sink Pipes
Fiddling around under the sink is something else that many people think will be an easy job and they can do alone.
However unless you know what you are doing, this can be a risky job and while you might be able to dismantle everything with ease, you will probably have a hard time putting everything back together and might end up causing more damage.
As the pipes under your sink are also close to other machinery, you might also mess up something else like your dishwasher. It’s far better to leave it to the experts as it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Installing A Dishwasher
Speaking of dishwashers, if you’re buying a new one then don’t attempt to install it yourself.
There are a lot of moving parts and it might require you to drill into a cabinet to make holes for the water lines, position the water and electric lines and hook up the water lines. It’s not a quick and simple installation so it’s not worth attempting.
Removing Walls
If you’re thinking about knocking a wall down to create one big room and have more space in your home then this is a great idea, however, it isn’t something you should do alone.
The wall could be a load-bearing wall and if you try to knock it down yourself you may damage it and your whole house might fall down Not only that but you’ll be seriously injured too.
Installing New Light Fixtures
Another one that seems like it would be an easy job isn’t necessarily.
Wiring in your house needs to be done by someone who knows what they’re doing, otherwise, you can easily cause more harm than good. Stick to what you know and for everything else, call in a pro.
