How to Make Your Loved One’s Birthday Extra Special

If one of your close friends or family members has an upcoming birthday, you’re probably trying to think of some great ways to make their day extra special.

It can be difficult to know how to make their birthday unique and exciting, especially as the years go by and you’ve already used all of your best ideas. You want to surprise your loved one while also making sure they enjoy their day as much as possible.

Making a birthday extra special isn’t only about the gifts. Showering your loved one with presents is just one of many ways to show them your love.

So, what else can you do to make your friend’s or family member’s birthday day extra special and memorable? We’ve put together a list of the best ways that you can do just this!

  1. Buy Them a Unique Gift

The first thing most people think of when it comes to birthdays is gifts. Most people are more than happy to receive a present for their birthday and they prefer this over going for a day out or eating at an expensive restaurant.

Whether you’re searching for a surprise gift for your parent or you want to buy your friend a funny present, it’s worth going the extra mile to think of a unique gift for your loved one. Choosing something unique will show that you have put a lot of thought and consideration into their present.

Shop Irish gifts to find something unusual and unedited. Whether you go for a cute accessory or a sophisticated ornament for the home, find something that your friend or family member will enjoy.

Consider a gift that is not unique and practical. You want your loved one to actually be able to use your gift or display it in their home!

  1. Record a Cute Birthday Message

You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a birthday gift. Something as simple and inexpensive as a cute birthday message can be enough to make your loved one extra special.

Take the time to record a funny message on your phone and send it to your friend or family member first thing. Sending it early in the day will show them that you are thinking about them.

To make the message even more personal, film yourself saying the message. This adds an extra special touch on top of a voice message.

Sending a cute birthday message is the perfect option if your loved one lives far away and you’re unable to post a gift.

  1. Cook Their Favorite Meal

If you know your loved one’s favorite starter, main, and dessert, get your chef’s hat on and cook them a delicious evening meal. This is a great choice if your friend or family member doesn’t like eating birthday cake but is a huge foodie!

Find some simple recipes to follow and cook a three-course meal from scratch. You will probably be able to find most of the ingredients in your recipes at the local grocery store, so it shouldn’t take too long to gather your supplies.

Cooking a whole meal might seem daunting but try to find recipes that won’t take too long to follow. Even if your cooking skills aren’t the best, they will appreciate the effort that you have made to make their day extra special.

  1. Create a Photo Album

For a personal, heartfelt gift, gather a bunch of photos from all of the special memories that you have with your loved one and piece them together in a photo album. You can both reminisce together about the funny and special moments that you have shared in the past.

Most stationery stores sell a range of stunning photo albums that look professional, yet decorative. You could even decorate the outside of the photo album yourself with pens, glitter, or stickers.

Leave some space at the end of the photo album for your friend or relative to add their own photos over the next few years. You are bound to have lots more amazing memories together!

  1. Serve Them Breakfast in Bed

If you live with your loved one, make them a delicious breakfast to enjoy in bed. It’s their day to relax and stay in bed for as long as they like, and providing them with a breakfast of their choice is the perfect way to spoil them.

They might choose a full English breakfast, fluffy American-style pancakes, or something as simple as a sausage toastie. Whatever they choose, make yourself a portion too so that you can both enjoy breakfast together before starting your day.

Alternatively, you could surprise them with breakfast in bed. Get up an hour before they do, trying not to wake them as you sneak down to the kitchen to prepare something delicious. They will love nothing more than relaxing in bed with a surprise brekkie!

  1. Host a Dinner Party With All of Their Friends and Family

Planning a dinner party takes a little more effort than buying a small gift or sending a birthday message but it will be worth all of the effort in the end. Your loved one’s face will light up as their friends and family appear at the door, ready for a surprise dinner party.

Secretly decorate your home with balloons and banners, and prepare the dinner table for all of the guests. Ask everybody to arrive 30 minutes or so before the special birthday man or woman so that you can all hide in the dark and yell ‘surprise’ when they walk through the door.

After you’ve all had a catch-up, you can sit down to a delicious three-course meal. You can either cook the food yourself, get others to help, or order food from a nearby upmarket restaurant.
