Amazing Places to Visit in Scotland That Aren’t Loch Ness

One of the best places in the UK for a short break is Scotland, whether you want to explore vibrant cities or quaint rural towns and farmland. While Loch Ness might be one of the most popular destinations in tours to Scotland, there are plenty of other things to see and do if you want to visit this amazing country.

Big cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh are packed with tourists during the peak times of the year and filled with plenty of great attractions, but there are many quieter and off-the-beaten-path areas to consider too.

Isle of Skye:

If you want to relax on your trip to Scotland on a secluded and rural island, the Isle of Skye is a perfect choice. This quiet and peaceful area is home to several famous attractions like the Fairy Pools and on some winter nights, you might even get to see the northern lights on the Isle of Skye to enhance your experience.

Stirling Castle:

If you love spending your time visiting ancient castles and exploring a world gone by, Stirling Castle will be a great choice for you.

The childhood home of Mary, Queen of Scots, this castle is one of the best-preserved in the UK and has been carefully restored to its original 1500s appearance.

The castle is located between the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh and has a stepped tower with almost 270 steps known as the Wallace Monument which is well worth the climb for the stunning views.

Edinburgh:

If you’re looking for a Scottish city break, Edinburgh is a vibrant and buzzing city where you can find so many things to see and do.

Whether you want to eat your way around the city and try out tons of world cuisines, see the impressive Edinburgh Castle, climb up to Arthur’s Seat or go drinking on the Royal Mile in the many pubs and bars, there’s something for everybody here.

Plus, you can easily take a train from Edinburgh to London and continue your vacation with a tour of Great Britain’s glorious capital!

Isle of Arran:

The Isle of Arran is an amazing place with almost everything that you might want from a Scottish island. A stunning coastline and sheltered beaches are perfect for a relaxing summer break, while the dramatic mountain peaks and lush forests are ideal for those looking for adventure and exploration.

Cultural festivals are held regularly throughout the year and there is always something to do, while the local produce is tasty with so many amazing things to try from traditional oatcakes to homemade ice cream and chocolate.

The Arran Distillery is definitely worth a visit where you can try some of the signature malt whiskey and liqueurs.

Loch Ness might be a popular spot in Scotland, but there’s so much more to this amazing country than trying to spot the Loch Ness monster. From peaceful islands to buzzing cities, you’ll never be short of things to see and do.
