Do both soulmates feel the connection?

As a general rule, when 2 true soulmates meet for the first time, they both feel the connection strongly. One may feel it more, and initiate the relationship, but the energy is felt by both people.

When my (now ex) wife and I met, and I did consider us to be soulmates, my ex saw me from across the room and said I had a glow or aura about me that was irresistible.

She felt compelled to come over and speak to me.

Once she did, I was drawn in as much as her and we stood in that place and talked literally for hours (we were in the courtyard of a bar where we had come separately to celebrate the birthday of a mutual friend).

We eventually kissed, but that was likely after at least 2 hours of intense connection and conversation.

Famed martial artist Bruce Lee once said:

“Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.”

Personally, I think he describes the early soulmate signs perfectly!

A soulmate is more than a relationship. Relationships broken down to their basic essence are when 2 people come together based on physical attraction and some mutual interests.

A relationship formed like that can subsist. It can grow and flourish.  But often they can’t sustain the trials and tribulations life often throws at us.

People, by definition, are imperfect. Therefore relationships are imperfect.

Thus a “normal” relationship often can’t stand the test of life. These days especially, people tend to throw in the towel on a relationship at the first sign of trouble.

Thus, you know when you’ve met your soulmate when it just feels different than any relationship you’ve had before.

It’s not obsessive or one-sided, but 2 people who can’t live without each other and are willing to fight to stay together no matter what it takes.

Do soulmates have similar birthdays?

Soulmates do find commonalities and coincidences which can extend to having a similar birthday or exact opposite birthdays, such as one being born 5/12 and the other being born 12/5.

But I don’t think that is a must criterion for soulmates.

So don’t run around crossing everyone off your list of candidates just because they weren’t born when you were. That being said, I do think astrology plays a role in attraction and compatibility.

Even the most diehard skeptics of astrology have to acknowledge that the position of the sun, moon, Earth, and stars has an impact on our planet.

Specifically, it has an impact on our planet’s water. Guess what we’re mostly made up of? Yes; water.

Thus, it stands to reason that the gravitational forces that can move our oceans and change tides would impact us and our behavior patterns.

So I do believe that some signs are more compatible than others and that how 2 people interact is based, in part, on when they were born.

But I don’t believe there are some signs that should never be together or couldn’t possibly be soulmates.

What happens when you meet your soulmate for the first time?

Meeting your soulmate for the first time both will feel a spark of electricity that draws them together. Both will also find it difficult to part at that initial meeting, but the connection will feel like they have known each other forever, or even in a past life.

So in a way, you just know.

Infatuation starts with physical attraction.  Love deepens to include shared interests, passion, and friendship. These are all early soulmate signs.

With the soulmate signs coincidences, it takes all of those characteristics to a whole new level. In fact, it’s more than possible to have a soulmate where some of the aspects of infatuation and love aren’t present.

When you really start to see the signs you have met your soulmate, it just feels different.

You will feel an inexplicable pull towards someone for reasons you can’t quite explain. A soulmate is something well beyond an ordinary relationship.  This person evokes a deep emotional response.

This goes beyond mere attraction or shared interests.

A soulmate is someone with whom we share a deep, almost primal connection; like 2 magnets inexplicably drawn together no matter what else is going on around us.

And the soulmate signs coincidences will be uncanny and not easily explained.

Do you recognize the signs you have met your soulmate, but your relationship is rocky or unstable?  It’s almost never too late to nurture, save or restore a relationship.

Check out one of my most read previous posts about the Ways to Make Your Relationship Grow (click to read on my site).

In that post, I take a look at some of the obstacles we face in relationships and how to steer around the most common roadblocks.

Does the universe bring souls together?

The universe does tend to draw souls together that are meant to be together. Everything in the universe is energy and energy either attracts or repels. And the energy of 2 people who are soulmates will naturally attract themselves to each other.

As you saw when you were a kid playing with magnets, sometimes energy attracts and sometimes it repels.

So certain energies naturally attract some energies more than others. Whether you believe it to be God or science I’ll leave it for you to label.

But something out there greater than ourselves does cause energy to collide and thus bring soulmates together.

What 2 zodiac signs are meant to be together?

The zodiac signs that most often are drawn to one another and stay together, in the long run, are:

  • Aries – Possible soulmates: Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini, and Aquarius
  • Taurus – Possible soulmates: Scorpio, Cancer, Capricorn, Virgo, and Pisces
  • Gemini – Possible soulmates: Sagittarius, Leo, Libra, Aries, and Aquarius
  • Cancer – Possible soulmates: Scorpio, Taurus, Pisces, and Virgo
  • Leo – Possible soulmates: Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aries
  • Virgo – Possible soulmates: Scorpio, Capricorn, Cancer, and Taurus
  • Libra – Possible soulmates: Gemini, Aquarius, Sagittarius, and Leo
  • Scorpio – Possible soulmates: Pisces, Virgo, Capricorn, and Cancer
  • Sagittarius – Possible soulmates: Leo, Aquarius, Aries, and Libra
  • Capricorn – Possible soulmates: Pisces, Taurus, Virgo, and Scorpio
  • Aquarius – Possible soulmates: Libra, Aries, Gemini, and Sagittarius
  • Pisces – Possible soulmates: Cancer, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Taurus

But, of course, there’s a lot more that goes into astrology. There is the time of birth to consider as well.

Astrologists divide the year is into 12 periods. During each of these periods, the sun moves into a specific constellation area. Thus, everyone has a zodiac sign based on the position of the sun and the stars at the time of their birth.

The 12 zodiac signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.

They start with Aries because, in olden times, our calendars didn’t start on January 1st. Calendars used to start with the beginning of the spring equinox which corresponds to the start of the Aries sign.

As modern times shifted that to Jan 1st, astrologers stuck to their guns.

That being said, I don’t necessarily believe that one sign or signs are the only possible ones that will work for a relationship with another.

All that being said, my wife (my soulmate) is a Pisces with me right on the cusp of Libra and Virgo, and we don’t make the cut according to this list of astrologer’s soulmate recommendations.

I have, however, had relationships with 3 of the 4 signs recommended for Libras and can attest they were NOT my soulmates.

So use this as a guide, but not the be-all end-all.

Are twin flames real?

Twin flames, which are like our mirror image, are real and genuine. Unlike a soulmate, however, twin flames can mirror and bring out our worst qualities such as jealousy and insecurity.

Soulmates are our perfect match; the person we’re most drawn to most out of all the people in the universe.

They complete us and are “the one”. When you find your soulmate and have a relationship, everything in life just seems to get better and get more in sync.

By comparison, however, twin flames are perfect mirrors of us.

Some of the early soulmate signs will be shared with twin flames:

  • Passion
  • Intensity
  • They feel familiar (even when you meet)

Soulmates feel complete with one another, like the perfect yin-yang. Twin flames, however, reflect back who we are and who we wish we were.

Twin flames often ignite our passion by introducing us to new things, places, people, and concepts.  It’s exciting! We often enter into these relationships quickly, and they continue to move fast.

But these relationships often don’t last, or they become on again-off again. They often bring a lot of change with them when they enter into a relationship with us, and sometimes that’s painful.

Most often a twin flame relationship is the result of an affair.

In this case, the love they are feeling, or at least what the cheater is feeling, is a type of love referred to as limerance. Limerance is a term coined in the 1970s to describe a crazy, intense, short-lived love that brings out the worst in us. But it’s often too intense to walk away from.

It feels like “real love” but isn’t. As such a limerance affair often ends somewhat quickly and badly leaving the spouse who cheated feeling lost, alone and confused.

While twin flames relationships are intense and passionate, twin-flame soulmates often bring out the worst in us in terms of insecurities, anxiety, and irrational behavior.

Thus, if you are in a relationship with someone you thought was your soulmate, but the intensity is bringing out the worst in you (or them), it could very well be a twin flame and not a soulmate.

Are all soulmates meant to be together?

Soulmates are meant to be together. But sometimes life, addiction, or childhood trauma cause the relationship to sour and for the soulmates to part. But even apart, they will forever be connected and feel the pull towards one another.

Those of you over 30 may recall the classic movie Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

The movie won 5 Academy Awards and was nominated for 13.  In that movie, as with much of their real-life, Burton and Taylor are married but filled with passionate anger.

In many ways, those characters and the actors who played them were soulmates.  But in reality, they were probably twin flames.

On-screen and off, they obviously had that deep connection and passion. But over time, again on-screen and off, that energy went south.  That movie is a great example of that, as were Burton & Taylor’s 2 marriages to each other.

The characters and the actors who played them were twin flames, or possibly soulmates.

They were drawn together and had great energy and chemistry. But emotional damage, alcohol abuse, and ego all combined to spin that relationship out of control.

One of my most liked relationship posts is called Top Reasons for Divorce (click to read on my site).

In that post, I said “Think of your emotions as sitting in a well.  The well is finite.  Love gets drained from the well as anger, frustration, and hate get added.”

Thus, it IS totally possible to meet your soulmate, have a relationship, and do so much damage it can’t continue.

The trick, if you’re in that boat, is to catch it before it gets to the stage where it’s too late.

How do you nurture the relationship with my soulmate?

The best ways to nurture, protect, and grow the relationship with your soulmate are:

  1. Avoid placing expectations on one another
  2. Appreciate your soulmate for who they are, exactly as they are
  3. Listen when they speak without just waiting your turn to talk
  4. Give them the benefit of the doubt – avoid jumping to conclusions
  5. Be 100% honest and open
  6. Admit when you make a mistake and don’t try and justify it or shift the blame
  7. Work as a team and be willing to compromise for the greater good
  8. Focus on being the best person you can be

If you make a mistake, own it.

Own it now.  Millions of people avoid owning their mistakes every day.  Why?  Pride, ego & insecurity. Your relationship with your soulmate can survive almost anything IF you take regular steps to own your mistakes and nurture the love.

When you make a mistake with your significant other and ignore it, cover it up or shift the blame you are pouring a little of the love out of your well.

Do that a few times a week over a year or two and it’s no wonder some relationships end in disaster.

Thus all the signs you have met your soulmate in the world won’t do you any good if you destroy the relationship by not taking ownership of your mistakes and behavior.

If you struggle to accept your mistakes (been there, done that!), I highly recommend you take a moment and check out my post called Overcoming Fear of Failure (click to read on my site).

In that post, I outline some easy and actionable steps you can take to work on improving taking ownership of mistakes.

When we take ownership of our mistakes we’re less apt to repeat them.  We’re also more open to learning from them.

There’s no better teacher in life than learning firsthand what doesn’t work.

So what are my . . .

11 Proven Soulmate Signs Coincidences You Probably Don’t Know?

Wall-e robot holding a flower Middle Class Dad signs you have met your soulmate

1. You find yourselves thinking about the same things before you speak

My wife and I often will start humming a song or thinking about eating at a restaurant only to find out that the other is thinking the exact same thing.

Somehow our energies just align.  Not all the time, but enough times to not be mere coincidence.

They call these soulmate signs coincidences.

If you subscribe (as I do) to the notion that the universe and everything in it is mere energy, then it’s not hard to understand that certain energies naturally harmonize.   Others push apart and others wreak havoc.

With the signs you have met your soulmate, you’ll naturally find “coincidences” become more and more common.

2. No matter what life throws at you, you can’t live without each other

When the going gets tough, does your relationship fall apart?

Or does it get stronger?

Do the 2 of you unite to fight the things the universe throws at you only to emerge victoriously?  Or does the slightest ripple tear your relationship apart?

At the end of the day, if you can’t picture life without your partner under almost any circumstance, you’re probably seeing the signs you have met your soulmate.

3. Your partner inspires you to be a better person

Does the thought of your spouse make you want to drink heavily?

If so, then they probably aren’t your soulmate.  If, on the other hand, your spouse makes you want to be a better person; to take better care of yourself and others, that’s a good sign.

A soulmate is not someone who makes you happy; only you can do that.

But they should fill you with inspiration and motivation.  After finding your soulmate, you should feel driven to pursue your dreams and imagine a new and better tomorrow with them at your side.

4. You agree on the deep stuff that really matters

My wife likes Pearl Jam.  I like New Order.

She loves Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing.  Guess what kind of movies I steadfastly avoided in the ’80s and ’90s?

In the end, is that what really matters?

No. We agree on morals, politics and how we want to raise our daughters.  We also share a love of the outdoors, camping and visiting (and eventually move to) Costa Rica.  That’s what really matters.

If you’re searching for someone who shares ALL your likes all the way down to your secret collection of Britney CDs, that’s probably the wrong approach.

The soulmate signs coincidences are about sharing your deepest thoughts & passions; even if it’s with a platonic soulmate.  The fundamentals of what makes YOU you.

Just because they love Matthew McConaughey romantic comedies probably isn’t a deal-breaker.

5. Your relationship is intense

Tension is energy.

Too much energy and even the best engine burns out.  Too little and it won’t go anywhere.  Thus a soulmate is someone who has an electric presence.  They recharge your batteries.

As I mentioned in my comparison above to the Virginia Wolfe movie, it is important that the energy stays healthy.

Energy gone wrong, or filtered through addiction can lead to drama, fighting and eventually replace the love with hate.  But don’t think a perfect relationship is drama-free.

Finding your soulmate will have an intense effect on you and you, them.  Expect it, nurture it and embrace it.

6. You call or text each other at the same time

As with #1 on this list, when there is a synergy between 2 people things often happen with some frequency that seems like a coincidence.

Except they happen too frequently.

Do you often find yourself about to call or text your significant other only to receive a message from them at the same time? They just might be your soulmate!

7. They are the one person who can really hurt you

Many of us have been hurt.  We carry baggage.

Thus we build up defensive walls.  Many of us build those walls high such that almost no one can climb over and hurt us.

A soulmate is often one of the few that we let in so close that they can really hurt us if we and they aren’t careful. If you find your partner is one of the few people on the planet who can hurt you; whose words really matter, they might just be your soulmate.

8. When you find time for romance, it’s just like when you first met

My wife and I have been together for well over a decade.

We’ve got 3 kids.  We both work over 40 hours a week.  My wife also goes to college at night to finish her degree.

You can bet our lives are busy.

It’s also a safe assumption that we don’t have as much time for each other as we did 10+ years ago.  BUT when we do make time for each other, it still feels like it did when we were dating.

That is the feeling you want in a soulmate.

9. You would do almost anything for each other

When your spouse calls and says their car broke down and they’re stranded, what do you do?

Do you hem and haw and hope they say they’re going to call their brother?  Or do you drop whatever you’re doing and say you’ll be there in 10 minutes?

One of the soulmate signs coincidences is when someone who prioritizes you first.

Your needs should surpass their work, friends and personal needs.  If your relationship isn’t one that puts you high on the list of priorities, you may want to keep looking for the signs you have met your soulmate.

10. While time apart is necessary, you can’t wait to spend time together

Time apart makes the time together all that much sweeter.

Or at least that’s how it should be.  Time apart is important.  Show me someone who spends every waking moment with their spouse and I’ll show you people who likely drive each other insane.

When we spend time apart; at work, doing hobbies, etc, it gives us something to talk about when we do see our partner.  If they do everything that you do, what’s left to talk about?

Thus when you’ve been apart all day and you finally see them, what happens?

Are they talking your ear off telling you about their day?  Or do they just give a quick hi and then go to check Facebook?

After a day apart, it’s nice to feel wanted.

But then I have been accused of being a needy guy.  One of my most personal posts is about How to Be Less Clingy in a Relationship (click to read on my site).

It’s was my all-time most popular post in the earlier part of this year, so check it out!

11. You have each other’s backs but you are also honest with each other

A soulmate, as with most other types of relationships has to walk a fine line.

We need to make sure our spouse feels supported; to feel like they come first.  But it is important that you aren’t blindly backing them up if they have made a mistake.

You aren’t helping them grow as a person by pretending they are perfect.

Thus, put them first & have their back.  But don’t be afraid to give honest, loving feedback that comes from the heart.

Are they really the one?

When my wife and I met we had both just come out of relationships.

We weren’t in a good head-space and I had just quit my job a month before we officially met. But that intensity was there.  We knew this was something worth exploring and we began to see the soulmate signs coincidences early on.

It took a long time, a couple of break-ups, and a few almost-breakups to get our heads on straight.  It took therapy (hers, mine, and ours).

And if you ever wondered “Can Marriage Counseling Help? (click to read my article to find out)”, I am here to tell you it can and my article on that is well worth checking out. Just click the link to read it now!

In fact, it’s taken us years to work through our respective issues to get to a place where we are truly in a healthy mindset.

We could have given up a long time ago.

But we didn’t, despite the pain we’ve both inflicted on each other.  We stuck with it.  More importantly, we worked through it.  We came out with a much stronger relationship than either of us have ever been in before.

It’s not a perfect relationship.  It still takes daily nurturing.  It takes the occasional apology.  But she’s my soulmate and I hers.  So it’s worth it.

If you’re like me, you’ll never again have to look for the signs you have met your soulmate.

Final thoughts

In this post, we took an in-depth look into the world of soulmates.

We talked about what a soulmate is if we only have 1, and how to recognize it when we find them. Specifically, we looked at the signs you have met your soulmate and the clear soulmate signs coincidences.

Do you feel you are with your soulmate? If not, why?  But if yes, how did you know for sure?

Hello Jeff, Thank you for this wonderful article! Finding our soulmates is not easy but definitely not impossible. When we are ready for them, they will show up in our lives. Also, meeting our soulmates can be hard because of our expectations. Most people usually expect their soulmate to be perfect for them. The reality behind is that this person will most likely be far away from what you thought you would actually meet. It takes time, dedication, love and lots of caring for a relationship to work. A soulmate is someone who is willing to make that effort with you to build strong foundations in a relationship. Our soulmates can be the best partners or the worst enemies and this happens because this karmic connection with them is so intense.

It was a pleasure connecting with you today! Wishing you all the best!
