Who Says You Can’t Support a Family & Study at the Same Time?

When kids come along, it isn’t uncommon to feel our dreams slipping away to make room for them.

You forget about those paths you wanted to follow or those things you still would’ve liked to study. Now, you’re far too busy being a good father or mother and a solid breadwinner.

Sadly, letting kids put your dreams on hold can breed resentment and unhealthy deflections.

That’s no good for anyone. Plus, it’s actually pretty cool for parents to pursue their dreams nowadays. What better way could there be to set a good example for the little people in your life?

This is a sure way to put that ‘you can do anything’ sentiment into action right in front of them. So, if there’s something you’ve always wanted to study, you should still do what you can to make it happen.

The only issue is, of course, that kids don’t come cheap.

With all your finances tied into the family, you may wonder how you could ever hope to complete the studies of your dreams. Well, keep reading, and you might find out.

Save for at least a year

You don’t need us to tell you that saving when you have a family isn’t easy.

At times, it can seem downright impossible. And, how can you ever hope to pay for a course of any kind if that’s your reality? By giving yourself plenty of time, of course.

If you set yourself a goal of embarking on that course in, say, three months, then you’re never going to save up enough. That’s logic.

But, by giving yourself at least a year, you should find that you can set aside small amounts each month which add up before you know.

Find ways to continue working

Even with the money in the bag, you have the pressing problem of needing to continue earning the same amount.

Going part-time may be fine when you’re in your twenties, but no respectable parent can scrap the day job. How would you feed your kids?

The good news is, though, that you may be able to achieve both at the same time. That’s because there are now endless part-time courses out there for working parents just like you.

If that doesn’t suit, there are even online courses like those offered by Rutgers Online, which are even more flexible.

Then, you’d be able to earn and advance all at once. We might as well call you Super Dad and be done with it.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Sometimes, it’s also worth just asking for help in your quest to pursue your dreams.

It may be that your partner is willing to take on extra hours for the time being. You may even find that there are grants and loans out there which can help you to make this dream a reality.

If you’re struggling to swallow your pride, remember how much more you could earn for your family and yourself if you finally went down this route.
