Besides the mountain of pens, notebooks and binders you need to buy for tweens as they start school, there is something else you must check off your list: clothes. It is not easy to buy clothes for tweens but it is not as difficult as you may think. Tweens want a new wardrobe every few months and they absolutely love trying new styles and patterns. You will be spending a lot of time at the mall and it is not going to be a joyride. Your tween may not like what you like but there is nothing like spending time with them and helping them choose the right clothes. Here is a guide to shopping clothes for your tween girl.

  1. Allow ample time

Do not head to the shopping mall with little or no time on hand. Allow ample time to your tween to choose, consider, and then try. If you rush through the process, it could lead to frustration and you could regret the purchases at a later date. Head to the mall during quiet hours so you have enough time to browse through the clothes and be patient.

  1. Check the size

Be very clear about the size of the clothes you are looking for. Tweens are constantly growing and you will notice a difference in their size every few months. Hence, before you head to the mall, size them up. Take the measurements and write them down on paper so that it is easier to choose when you are at the mall. There can be a lot of differences in size between brands and styles, which can take up your time. Hence, having the right size handy will make it easy and convenient.

  1. Set the budget

Before you head shopping, it is important to set a budget and communicate about the same with your tween. There will be times when you will be tempted to go over budget but do not do that. When you have a budget in mind, you will know which brands to choose and where to head. It will also teach money lessons to your tween.

  1. Do not judge

There will be times when you will not be happy with the clothes that your girl picks but do not make the mistake of judging her. As long as the clothes are age-appropriate, do not pass any comment on them. If you do not want her to buy it, explain the reason and talk to her patiently about the same. She will pick clothes that are different from the ones you had in mind and it may cause tension between you two. Hence, be patient and allow her to make the choices as long as she is confident about it.

  1. Head to the thrift store

If you want to try something new or want to pick a brand that is not easily available at the mall, head to the thrift store. You will find ample options here and maybe you can pick similar clothes for mom and child. It is best to double-check the size here as it could be different from one brand to another.

  1. Do not multitask

You might be tempted to shop for yourself while at the mall in order to avoid another visit but do not do this. Even if you have a shopping list in mind, do not start shopping for yourself at the mall. You are here for your daughter and the sole focus should be on her. If you try to start picking things for yourself, it will be distracting and may lead to frustration.

  1. Use coupons and gift cards

Always plan the shopping trip in advance and use the gift cards or coupons you have. It will reduce the cost significantly and make it convenient for you to shop. It will also allow you to shop more than you intended to. You can find a lot of shopping coupons online if you keep a watch on the brands you like to purchase.

This guide will help you shop for your tween girl without any stress and worry. Shopping with tweens is not always a disaster and can become a wonderful experience if you plan well. Remember, it is a time to bond with your girl and build memories. Do not just focus on the shopping and money, try to have a wonderful time and share the experience. You can plan an entire day at the mall to include activities like shopping, food, and maybe catching a movie. Alternatively, you can spend some time shopping and the rest of the time at the games arcade. Make shopping a wonderful experience by being a sport and planning well. Be patient and let your girl pick her favorite clothes at the store.
