These days, it seems like families don’t have a whole lot of time to spend together like what they used to.
That’s largely because parents will have such long work days and most of them will even bring some work back with them to complete in the evenings and at weekends.
When parents do finally get some time to enjoy themselves, they might find that their children are glued to their screens and won’t be dragged away from their phones and computers.
So, if you do want to try to spend more time together as a family, you will find that it pays to be proactive.
You will have to make sure that you don’t let work inch its way into your free time. It’s also necessary to try to encourage your kids away from their screens so that you can enjoy time together as a family. One way to do that is to think of some great activities that you know they will enjoy.
Here are a few great ideas of pastimes and activities that the whole family will enjoy doing together.
Visit The Beach
Is there any better family activity to do together than visit the beach?
I certainly can’t think of any that will top this! Kids will love splashing in the sea and building sandcastles while adults will love the nostalgia of a seaside vacation that reminds them of their childhood.
Plus, you’ll be able to enjoy a snooze on the sand while the kids are playing with their buckets and spades. If you live close to the coast then you’ll be able to drive there and back in a day.
If you live slightly further out then you could spend the night in a quaint seaside guesthouse.
Go To Your Local Library
If you want something fairly cheap to do with the kids, you could head to your local library for an hour or two.
Make sure that you have all joined as members so that your kids will be able to borrow any books that catch their eyes.
Most libraries will also lend various forms of media like DVDs and CDs as well. It could be worth checking out what is on in the library as it will hold various one-off and regular events. Some of these events will be perfect for children, such as storytelling and crafts.
Enjoy A Picnic Together
If the weather is nice outside, you could pack up a picnic and head out to your local park.
Of course, there are many other great spots you’ll be able to take your picnic. Just as long as you are all outside and together, I’m sure that you will have a fantastic time.
It gives your kids the chance to play outside and get plenty of fresh air into them.
If you fancy treating yourself and your partner, you could always pop a bottle of fizz into your picnic basket!
Do Some Gardening
Even though sorting your garden out might sound like a chore, there are ways you can turn it into a fun activity that everyone in your family will be able to enjoy.
For instance, if you have young children in your family, you could always turn this into a game for them. One game you could create would be to get them to see how many weeds they can pull up in a set time. Whoever gets the most out of the ground is the winner!
You will find that making these little games and being out in the garden together with your family will help this feel a lot less like a chore than what it may be used to.
Take Up A Sport
If you wish that you could persuade your kids to be a little bit more active, you could always take up a new sport together as a family.
Pull on your golf shoes and hit the driving range to practice your swing. Once you all get quite good, you’ll be able to head to the greenway and play a round of golf together as a family. Similarly, you might want to start playing tennis or badminton.
If there are four of you in the family, you’ll be able to play doubles.
Play Boardgames
It may not sound like the most exciting of ideas but you could play some board games together.
These days there are quite a few fun and exciting games that require players to do more than just roll a die.
Instead, lots of new games require players to come up with strategies and use analytical thinking to solve various puzzles and figure out how to move to the next step.
You’ll find that modern board games are a lot more exciting than Monopoly and will keep your kids hooked for hours! Head to D20 Collective for some gaming dice sets and enjoy the afternoon of role-playing games for maximum fun!
Go For A Bike Ride
If you want another excuse to take your kids out into the great outdoors, you could always suggest going for a bike ride together.
This is a great way to see some nature as you will be able to take trails and cycle ways through forests, along the coast, and through rolling fields.
If you are going to head out for a long day, you could pack a picnic and place this in your bicycle basket.
Go Fruit Picking
If you live in a slightly rural area, you will no doubt have a lot of farms in your local area.
If these farm fruits then there is a chance they might open to the public during fruit picking season. Why not spend the day at a farm like this picking a lot of juicy fruits that you will be able to take home to eat and bake into delicious sweet treats?
I’m sure that the kids will love spending a day down on the farm and might even come face-to-face with some cute animals in the farmyard!
There are so many great things that you and your family will really enjoy doing together. What will you do at the weekend?
