4 Bad Habits To Kick Out In 2020

The start of a new year is a good excuse to think about some new beginnings. It’s time to say goodbye to a few things and leave them in the past for good. I know, it will be tricky. But, the beginning of a year is a brilliant time to reflect on your life – most notably your health. After a fun festive period, you should take a look at some of the habits you feel yourself slipping into.

These bad habits can harm your health & wellbeing, but they’re even more damaging for parents.

You see, when you’re guilty of bad habits, there’s a strong chance your kids will follow in your footsteps. So, for the good of their wellbeing, maybe it’s time to kick out these habits in the upcoming year:

Smoking

We all knew this lousy habit would make an appearance, and it’s something you should really try to kick out. Smoking does nothing good for you, but a whole lot of bad. Plus, second-hand smoke can affect your children, which means their health is harmed too.

Kicking the habit will be very challenging – particularly in the beginning. Thankfully, with things like vape pens, it’s easier to try and gradually wean yourself off the cigarettes.

Also, invest in an air purifier for your home as this can clean the air for you. If you’re wondering why you need an air purifier for smoke?

Then the answer is simple – it gets rid of traces of smoke in the air, making it cleaner to breathe. This removes the smell of stale smoke from your house as well, which makes it feel like you’ve got a fresh start to help you kick this habit in 2020.

Scrolling

We’re all guilty of scrolling too much every day. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then it’s what you’re most likely doing right now; scrolling through your phone!

Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with using your phone throughout the day – especially if you’re reading excellent blog posts like this one!

However, it becomes an issue when you’re glued to your phone 24/7.

No matter what you do or where you are, you can’t help but scroll through social media, scroll aimlessly through news websites, and so on. It’s bad for your health as it can hurt your eyesight and disrupt your sleep cycle. Plus, staring down at your phone all day will lead to chronic neck pain and loads of problems with your posture.

To avoid this, and the subsequent chiropractic appointments to fix your busted neck, try and cut down on your scrolling time. Limit your phone use every day, and you’ll be amazed at how much better it makes you feel.

Snoring

Okay, some of you may think this is an unfair inclusion on a list of bad habits.

If you’re asleep, then you don’t really have control over what you do. You don’t intend to snore, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not a bad habit! Snoring actually has some negative health effects such as heart disease, increased risk of stroke, and a tendency to develop GERD.

Moreover, snoring really harms the people around you. Your partner may struggle to sleep every night because of your snoring. As a result, they feel tired and lethargic every day, which can lead to loads of mental & physical health issues.

Or, your snoring could be so bad that they can’t sleep in the same room as you. So, you sleep in separate rooms, which can lead to an increased strain on your relationship.

While snoring isn’t really your fault, it is your fault if you choose to do nothing about it.

There are loads of ways to combat snoring, including mouth guards that you put in every night. Kick this bad habit to the curb if you want a more peaceful and healthy life in 2020.

Snacking

The Christmas period is when most snacks are consumed throughout the year.

That’s not technically a legitimate fact as I just made it up, but it’s fair to assume the statement is correct! We gorge ourselves on so many sweet treats, but it’s okay because it’s Christmas!

Instead, you should kick out the habit of constantly snacking throughout the year. Stop eating crisps and chocolate bars whenever you get a craving. It’s a bad example to set for your children, and it leads to weight gain and health problems.

Instead, pick up an apple or some nuts when you feel peckish between meals.

I know it’s cliche to do the whole ‘new year new me’ thing – but I think it’s worth trying. Most people want to change little things about themselves, especially bad habits. A new year is a perfect excuse to try something different and look to turn over a new leaf.

So, try and kick out these four bad habits – if you’re guilty of them!
